The Humbug collection plays with the contrast between light and dark timber, using bold stripes and heavily rounded edges to give the pieces a subtle mid-century character. I wanted to create a multipurpose unit that could be shaped by the person using it — somewhere to display objects, books and belongings in a way that reflects their own personality.

Bright colours sit easily against the caramel tones of the timber, while the striped construction keeps the piece feeling playful, graphic and informal rather than overly formal.

It was also essential that the Humbug could stand completely freely and support itself safely, while still being easy to collapse and move. The precise joinery allows the structure to come apart without any visible fixings, keeping the appearance clean while making it practical to transport, reassemble and move from place to place.
